Most main contractors in Singapore ask for safety footwear certified to SS 513 (the Singapore standard, aligned with EN ISO 20345). Look for the marking on the tongue or insole. The class matters too: S1P means a toe cap, anti-static sole and a penetration-resistant midsole; S3 adds a water-resistant upper and cleated sole for muddy sites. Steel toe caps are the norm; composite caps are lighter, do not conduct heat or cold and pass metal detectors, which suits airport, data-centre and MRT work.

A single lanyard is fine when you clip on once and stay put, for example in a boom lift. A double (twin-tail) lanyard lets you stay attached at all times while moving between anchor points, which is what most scaffold, steel-erection and roofing jobs require. Either way the harness should be EN 361 and the lanyard should have an EN 355 shock absorber; for continuous vertical movement a retractable fall arrestor to EN 360 is usually the better choice.

Follow the manufacturer's date of manufacture moulded under the peak: most makers rate the shell for 3 to 5 years of site use and the harness (suspension) for about 12 months. Replace a helmet immediately after any significant impact, and take it out of service if it is cracked, chalky, faded or has been stored in direct sun or near solvents. Never paint helmets or apply solvent-based stickers to them.

Cut resistance is rated under EN 388 with the ISO 13997 letter scale (A to F). Handling sheet metal, glass and cut steel calls for level D or above; general assembly and packing is usually fine at level B or C. Check the palm coating too: nitrile or polyurethane palms give grip on oily metal, while a plain knit is better for dry handling. If you tell us the job, we will match the glove.
